-
We will begin with a brief phone call to discuss your therapy needs. We can then arrange an initial appointment to explore your history, what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it. This assessment may take more than one appointment. We will also consider whether working together feels right and, if so, agree a suitable regular appointment.
-
The first session gives us both an opportunity to consider whether we can form a helpful working relationship. The quality of the client–therapist relationship is an important part of effective therapy, so it matters that you feel comfortable enough to work with me.
-
The length of therapy varies according to the nature of the difficulties you are experiencing and what you hope to gain from our work. Some people find a shorter course of around 12 sessions helpful, while longstanding difficulties may benefit from a year or more. We can review this together as the therapy progresses.
-
Therapy is confidential, with some important limits. If I have a safeguarding concern that you or a child may be at risk, I may need to share relevant information. All therapists receive supervision to support safe and ethical practice. In supervision, clients are anonymised and my work is discussed with a highly qualified supervisor.
-
There is no threshold your problem must meet for therapy to be worthwhile, and you do not need to be in crisis. Curiosity about yourself and a desire for personal growth can be enough reason to begin. Therapy may support greater fulfilment, improved mental wellbeing and a clearer understanding of your life.
